Miami Golf Vacations and Packages
LeBron James might have taken his talents from South Beach back to Cleveland, but that doesn’t tarnish Miami’s reputation as one of the world’s great vacation destinations.
Check into one of a wide variety of hotels. Spend a day on the beach with the beautiful people. Dine at one of dozens of incredible restaurants. Then dance the night away at one of a long list of nightclubs that serve any taste.
That’s a pretty solid vacation. And when you tie into our wonderful golf options you have an unmatched golf getaway. We work with several hotels in Miami, five of which feature golf on property: Shula’s Hotel & Golf Club, Hotel Indigo, Trump National Doral, Turnberry Isle and Biltmore Hotel. Several of our hotel partners have hotels in the middle of all the action on South Beach.
While not has well-known as some of the other properties, Shula’s Hotel & Club and its sister property Hotel Indigo in Miami Lakes offer tremendous value and quality. Hotel Indigo is a quaint property with 86 guestrooms, designed for the style-conscious traveler in search for an alternative experience from traditional hotels. Shula’s Hotel has 205 guestrooms, a great pool area and a super sports bar. It is a perfect spot for a golf trip with your buddies.
The Senator Golf Course was designed in 1962 by Bill Watts and renovated in 1998 by Kipp Schulties. Landing areas generally are ample on a track that utilizes 500 acres. The course’s defense is its undulating greens complexes, and a perfect example is the 477-yard seventh, a reachable par 5 that features an island green. Hit the solid approach shot and birdie is a good possibility. Stray offline just a little and your ball goes bounding into the lake.
Shula’s Golf Club is also home to the original Shula’s Steak House, one of the top-rated restaurants in Miami.
Trump National Doral is the most recognizable of our golf partners, playing host to the WGC Cadillac Championship every March. Doral offers everything one would expect from a five-star resort, including five golf courses. The most noted of those is the Blue Monster, whose famous 18th hole was ranked by GOLF Magazine as one of the Top 100 Holes in the World.
Approximately $250 million has been put into the restoration of Trump National Doral, including work on all five courses. Trump himself said the investment is to “restore Doral back to its original grandeur.”
Doral is also home to the renowned Jim McLean Golf School, the TaylorMade Performance Lab and a practice area that has doubled in size.
Turnberry Isle and Biltmore are two other prestigious properties that feature outstanding golf courses. Turnberry, located in North Miami Beach, is a Mediterranean-style retreat that exemplifies a culture of authenticity, spirited service and enriching experiences. Its two Robert Trent Jones Sr. courses — Soffer and Miller — hosted the LPGA Tour for many years, and recently underwent a renovation by Raymond Floyd. Elevation change, well-placed bunkers and routing around several lakes make this a challenging test for any level of play.
The Biltmore is a luxurious Miami classic that opened in 1926 to leading socialites of the Northeast who came down on trains marked “Miami Biltmore Specials.” The historic hotel features an original Donald Ross-designed golf course, and is the venue for many high-society events and weddings. Among its 275 guest rooms are 130 Mediterranean-style suites.
Among the other Miami courses we recommend is Crandon Golf Club at Key Biscayne, former host to the PGA Champions Tour. Set on an island overlooking Biscayne Bay and the Miami skyline, the course is tropical, lush and populated by a number of exotic animals.
Two other historic tracks that we recommend were both recently re-designed by renowned architect Arthur Hills. Normandy Shores, opened in 1939, and Miami Beach Country Club (originally opened in 1923 as Bayshore), were brought to modern-day standards by Hills.
You might also consider the Westin Diplomat Golf Club, a Troon Golf-managed property.
